Biography
Syed Raza Abbas Zaidi is a Pakistani noha khwan (reciter of noha and marsiya) associated with the country's Shia azadari tradition. According to his own published profile, he has been reciting noha, salam, naat and manqabat since 1996, giving him more than a quarter of a century of active recitation, and he is widely described as a renowned noha khwan of the Muslim Shia community.
His recitation centres on the mourning poetry of Muharram, commemorating the events of Karbala and the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and his companions. He is known for an emotive, elegiac style delivered both in live majalis and in studio recordings, and his repertoire spans noha, soz-o-salaam and manqabat in Urdu.
Zaidi releases new material as part of the annual Muharram cycle, with fresh nohas issued each year for the azadari season. Recorded works documented in the Abul Hasan Lakhani reciters archive include the nohas "Kyun Na Roye Sajjad" and "Meri Sakina Ko" (2010), "Tishnagi Mashk-o-Alam Bali Sakina" (2013) and "Barchi Na Khenchna" (2019), alongside the salaams "Khol De Bediyaan", "Siskiyan Khaimo Se" and "Din Dhal Raha Hai" (2016).
His more recent annual albums have circulated widely on social media, among them "Ghareeb e Zehra Ka Badan" (2022), "Utha Nahi Jaata Amma" and "Janab e Hazrat e Abbas Ko Bulaya Karo" (2023), "Abbas Na Jao Ruk Jao", "Akhri Waar" and "Royegi Maa Aun O Muhammad" (2024), and "Chala Gaya Abbas" (2025). Several of his tracks are tributes to Hazrat Abbas, Ali Akbar, Bibi Sakina and Bibi Zainab.
Zaidi maintains an active presence across digital platforms, distributing his work through an official YouTube channel, SoundCloud, Facebook and Instagram, where his profile has drawn a substantial following. His live noha khwani has been recorded at majalis in Karachi, including at venues such as Masjid-e-Allay and Numaish Chowrangi gatherings.
Beyond his year-of-first-recitation and his catalogue of recorded kalaam, detailed biographical information about Zaidi — such as his birth year, hometown and family background — is not documented in reliable public sources, and is therefore not recorded here.
