Biography
Shahid Baltistani (Syed Shahid Ali / Shahid Hussain Baltistani) is a renowned Pakistani Shia noha khwan (reciter of elegies), composer, and poet, hailing from the Baltistan region of Gilgit-Baltistan. He is widely recognised across the Pakistani and international Shia community for his devotional recitations mourning the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and the martyrs of Karbala.
He has released noha albums annually for the month of Muharram over more than two decades, with his recordings archived from the early 2000s onward and new material issued each year. His nohay are distributed through his official YouTube channel, streaming platforms, and dedicated noha archives, and are performed primarily in Urdu.
His work focuses on marsiya and noha themes centred on the events of Karbala, including elegies dedicated to Hazrat Abbas (Alamdar), Ali Akbar, Qasim, and the household of the Prophet. He continues to be an active and prominent figure in the tradition of azadari (Shia mourning) noha recitation.
