Biography
Ali Shanawar (Syed Ali Shanawar Raza) is a Pakistani Shia noha khwan (elegy reciter) and the son of the internationally famous reciter Nadeem Sarwar. He came to prominence as a young reciter, with his early nohay released through his father's albums, and grew into one of the well-known voices of Muharram and Safar mourning gatherings.
He is most widely recognized for reciting alongside Ali Jee, and the pair regularly release annual noha albums and perform at majalis in Karachi and elsewhere. Their recitations, produced under the Nadeem Sarwar label, are followed by Shia communities across Pakistan and internationally.
Ali Shanawar recites primarily in Urdu, and has also performed nohay in other languages. His work centers on the remembrance of Imam Hussain and the events of Karbala.
